I don’t remember who built this, but it’s a nice Whilly Boat
Fifteen and a half feet bow to stern.
We regard blueberries as a staple food, each year we go to our favorite berry farm and pick about fifty pounds of berries to put in the freezer. For winemaking we go back just at the end of the season when the price is reduced somewhat, and pick more blueberries. Blueberries by themselves make a good fruit wine, but since we’re after a port-style wine we usually combine the blueberries with plums, and age the wine in oak kegs. The plums seem to add a tart flavor. Someday we hope to grow enough of our own plums to use in winemaking, but for now we watch the end of the season sales at the supermarket produce section. Here’s the recipe for the last batch of Plum-Blueberry wine we made:

This makes two large loaves of very heavy, very dark, black rye bread. We present this as Russian black bread, but most cultures have their version of black bread, and they’re all pretty good.
Most of the recipies which we present are low-fat, low-salt, and generally heart-healthy…But take note: this one isn’t. This recipe is presented for fun; it’s reprinted from a book we published in 1982.

When our son Alexander was eight he wanted a puppy, and he already knew the doggy-mother-to-be. Nugget, the golden retriever who belonged to our friends Ada and Leroy, was expecting.
